US Open 2026 projected seeds

Seeds confirmed when the draw is made

The thirty two players in line for a seed on each side, worked out from live rankings rather than last Monday's official list. Seeds are only fixed when the draw is made in the days after qualifying ends on 27 August. Until then this is what the order looks like.

Read this before you use the numbers These are projections, not confirmed seeds. They come from our live rankings model, which starts from the official ranking and adjusts for points dropping off and points won at the tournaments running this week. Withdrawals shift everything below them, and seven players have already pulled out. The official seed list appears when the USTA publishes the draw.

Who the seeding matters for

Aryna Sabalenka arrives as the two time defending champion and is trying to become the first woman to win three US Open titles in a row since Serena Williams took three between 2012 and 2014. Carlos Alcaraz defends the men title after a 2026 that included the Australian Open and a wrist injury that cost him Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

The 2026 major winners are all in the field: Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva and Linda Noskova on the women side, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev on the men side. Novak Djokovic, at 39, is chasing a 25th major, and his last one was here in 2023. Twenty eight American men earned direct entry, more than any other country, and no American man has won a major since Andy Roddick at this tournament in 2003. Yahoo Sports entry list report

Questions people ask

How many seeds are there at the US Open?

Thirty two in each singles draw, out of 128 players. The top two seeds cannot meet before the final, the top four cannot meet before the semi finals, and so on down the bracket.

How are US Open seeds decided?

Straight off the ATP and WTA singles rankings shortly before the main draw. Unlike Wimbledon, which used to apply a grass court formula to the men, the US Open does not adjust the ranking order. Whoever is ranked highest among the entrants is the top seed.

Are these the confirmed US Open 2026 seeds?

No. Nothing is confirmed until the draw is made, which happens between the end of qualifying on 27 August and main draw play starting on 30 August. The tables above are projections built from our own live rankings, which take the official ranking and adjust it for points being defended and won at the events running this week. They are the best available estimate, not an official list.

Which players have withdrawn from the US Open 2026?

Seven withdrawals were confirmed as of 4 August 2026: Emma Raducanu, Sebastian Korda, Victoria Mboko, Hailey Baptiste, Ajla Tomljanovic, Varvara Gracheva and Irina Camelia Begu. Late withdrawals are common in the fortnight before a slam and every one of them moves the seeding down by a place. Tennis365

How big is the US Open main draw?

128 players in each singles draw. Roughly 104 get in on their ranking, 16 come through qualifying and 8 receive wild cards. WTA
