About

Born in San Candido in the Italian Dolomites, Jannik Sinner was a junior ski champion before fully committing to tennis at 13 under Riccardo Piatti. He turned pro in 2018 and broke into the top 10 by 2021. His real breakthrough came in 2023 with a Davis Cup title, followed by a maiden Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open and the world No. 1 ranking that summer. He has held the top spot for most weeks of any player since.

How they play

Playing style

An aggressive baseliner who plays close to the line and takes the ball remarkably early. The forehand and two-handed backhand are both struck flat with heavy depth, turning rallies into a series of body blows. Footwork is unusually precise for someone 191 cm tall, and the calm under pressure has only deepened since the 2024 AO final.

Serve
First serve clocks 200+ km/h with high first-serve percentage; placement on the second serve has improved markedly since 2024.
Groundstrokes
Both wings are weapons — the backhand down the line is the rally-changer, and the inside-out forehand is the finishing shot.
Movement
Long strides and excellent recovery; transitions to net cleanly when given a short ball.
Weakness
When forced wide off the forehand on slow surfaces, his recovery angle can leave the open court exposed.
