A 128-player main draw runs across two weeks, preceded by a 128-player qualifying draw the week before. Top seeds enter the main draw directly. The qualifying draw is published a week ahead of main-draw entry lists.

The 2026 purse has not been announced. For reference, the 2025 US Open paid a record USD 90 million in total player compensation, up 20 per cent on 2024, with USD 5 million to each singles champion. The USTA told players in July 2026 that it planned a significant increase, and a player coalition is pressing the Slams to pay out a fixed share of revenue. Expect the breakdown in the days before the main draw.

Yes. Fan Week runs from 23 to 29 August 2026 and entry to the grounds is free, which covers qualifying matches, practice sessions and the Mixed Doubles Championship. Arthur Ashe Kids' Day opens it on 23 August. Once the main draw starts on 30 August you need a ticket.

Two courts do. Arthur Ashe Stadium has had a retractable roof since 2016 and Louis Armstrong Stadium since 2018. Every other court on site, including the 8,125-seat Grandstand, is open to the weather, so rain still suspends play across most of the grounds even when the two show courts keep going.

A 10-point tie-break decides it. The US Open was the first Slam to use a final-set tie-break, and since 2022 all four majors have used the same 10-point format at 6-all in the deciding set.

Laykold, an acrylic cushioned hard court, in its sixth year as the official surface after replacing DecoTurf in 2020. It plays medium-fast with a true bounce, quicker than Indian Wells and a touch faster than the Australian Open. Night sessions play quicker still, because the cooler and drier air off Flushing Bay takes drag off the ball.

128 in each singles draw: 104 direct entries on ranking, 16 qualifiers from a 128-player qualifying event, and 8 wildcards. The doubles draws hold 64 teams each and the mixed doubles event holds 16 teams.
