Carlos Alcaraz

🇪🇸Spain · Age 22 · Born 5 May 2003

About

From El Palmar, near Murcia, Carlos Alcaraz turned pro at 15 under Juan Carlos Ferrero at JC Ferrero Equelite Sport Academy. He won his first Masters 1000 in Miami in 2022 and ended that year as the youngest world No. 1 in ATP history. His four Grand Slams across all three surfaces — won before turning 22 — and his ability to add new gears on demand have made him the spiritual heir to the Big Three era.

How they play

Playing style

An all-court virtuoso who can play three different match-ups in three different sets. The forehand is the signature shot — a heavy, whippy, drop-and-explode motion that produces both topspin moonballs and flat winners. Mixes feathered drop shots with full-power baseline hitting better than anyone on tour, and his net coverage at 1.83 m is genuinely elite.

Serve
First serve hits 215+ km/h on demand; the kick second serve is one of the heaviest on tour.
Groundstrokes
Forehand is the world's best when fully loaded; the two-handed backhand is steadier than flashy but has improved year-on-year.
Movement
Explosive lateral pushes; covers ground laterally as well as anyone since prime Djokovic.
Weakness
Errant forehand counts can spike when he goes for too much off neutral balls.

Notable rivalries

Jannik Sinner
The rivalry of the era — multiple major-stage finals and a level all-time H2H.
Novak Djokovic
Three Grand Slam finals between 2023 and 2024; Alcaraz holds the edge in best-of-five.
Alexander Zverev
Has lost only once to Zverev since 2023; clay matchups particularly one-sided.
