How they play

Playing style

Paul is a versatile baseline aggressor with a strong attacking forehand, solid backhand, and excellent movement that suits all surfaces, particularly clay where his junior success originated. His tactical variety, net approaches, and kick second serve make him dangerous, blending power with precision and speed to outmaneuver opponents from defense to offense effectively.

Serve
Paul's serve features a fluid, efficient motion with continental grip, good placement, and one of the tour's best kick second serves that jumps high. First serve speeds are solid around 130 mph, prioritizing consistency over raw power like Fritz.
Groundstrokes
Dominant forehand with whippy swing generates depth, angles, and power to dictate rallies; backhand is reliable, flat, and slice-capable for control and low bounces. Both weapons provide spin and flat options for versatility.
Movement
Exceptional footwork and court coverage with light, quick steps excel in defense and transitions; strong on clay and grass, enabling all-court play and net rushes. Solid athleticism supports prolonged rallies.
Weakness
Serve lacks elite power and ace production compared to top servers, vulnerable in big moments; occasional mental lapses and unforced errors from forehand when overly aggressive can be exploited by consistent returners.
