Learner Tien was born on December 2, 2005, in Irvine, California, to Vietnamese refugees. He turned professional in 2023 after a standout junior career, including USTA Boys 18s National Championships in 2022 and 2023, and reaching finals at the 2023 Australian Open and US Open juniors. His breakthrough came in 2025 with a fourth-round run at the Australian Open, defeating Daniil Medvedev, followed by his first ATP title at the Moselle Open and winning the Next Gen ATP Finals. In 2026, he reached the Australian Open quarterfinals, again beating Medvedev, and made the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. As of April 2026, he holds a career-high ATP ranking of No. 21, achieved on March 16, and is the No. 4 American.
