Jessica Pegula
About
Born in Buffalo, New York on February 24, 1994, Jessica Pegula turned professional in 2009. After early career setbacks including knee and hip injuries that sidelined her for extended periods, her breakthrough came in 2021 with a quarterfinal at the Australian Open. Pegula reached a career-high No. 3 in 2023, won her first WTA 1000 title at Guadalajara that year, and has since claimed 11 singles titles including Dubai and Charleston in 2026. Currently ranked No. 5 with a 21-4 YTD record and 6,136 points as of late April 2026, she defended her Charleston title on April 5, leading the tour with 24 wins this season.[WTA Profile](https://www.wtatennis.com/players/316956/jessica-pegula)

““Thank you to the fans who’ve supported me throughout this whole week. There were many three-set matches. It’s been such a long week for me, and you guys brought me through so many matches every single day.””
Playing style
Jessica Pegula plays a balanced, all-court game without overwhelming power or exceptional athleticism, relying on precise flat groundstrokes, smart redirection of pace, and taking the ball early from the baseline. Her tactical identity centers on consistency, high tennis IQ, and versatile shot-making, making her dangerous through error-free play and capitalizing on opponents' mistakes in extended rallies.[WTA Tennis](https://www.wtatennis.com/news/4478983/reigning-charleston-champ-jessica-pegula-enjoys-outlier-balanced-playstyle)
